Tess Donohoe

I am a Portland based artist and designer. I was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark and spend my summers in my family’s house in the woods in Sweden far away from society and close to nature. After traveling and taking art classes at City College in San Francisco I attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and graduated with a degree in illustration. Having worked as an illustrator and graphic designer I have pursued drawing and painting at the same time. After living in several cities on the West Coast I am now happy to call Portland my home.

Through painting, I am seeking to capture my impressions and interpretation of the world around me studying the figure and nature. I spend time painting from observation and my favorite moments are spent painting outdoors capturing and learning about light and color through the challenge of working from life. I am hoping to give viewers a sense of the connectedness I feel to nature and also capture the world, people, and nature as I see it knowing the fleeting nature of all. 

I work from my studio in NE Portland where my husband, who is a furniture designer/maker, Ryan Donohoe also has his wood shop. Ryan makes all my beautiful wooden frames.
